  Win XP> Dial Up Networking
   
 
1. Click Start, and then Click on My Network Places
 
2. On the Left Side of the window you will see a smaller window titled Network Tasks.
a. Click on View Network Connections.
 
3. In the Network Connections window, on the left hand side is another Network Tasks Window
a. Click Create a new Connection this will start the NEW CONNECTION WIZZARD.
 
4. Click Next
 
5. Ensure the DOT is beside Connect to the Internet and click Next.
 
6. Put the DOT beside SET UP MY CONNECTION MANUALLY and click Next.
 
7. Select Connect using a dial up modem, and click Next.
 
8. Enter “Brad’s Net” for the ISP name, and click Next.
 
9. Enter the Dialup number the customer will call, and click NEXT.
(DO NOT ENTER THE AREA CODE AT THIS TIME, THIS WILL BE DONE LATER IN THE SET UP.)
 
10. Enter Username, Password, and Confirm Password( re-enter their password here.) Leave everything else at the default, and click NEXT.
 
11. Put a check mark inside the Add a shortcut to the desktop box, and click finish.
 
12. This will open up a Connect to Brad’s Net window

a. Put a check inside Save this username and password for the following users, and put a dot beside Anyone who uses this computer

b. Click on the Properties Button at the bottom of the screen.

 
13. Place a check mark inside the Use Dialing rules box, enter the area code into the Area Code box, and then click the Dialing Rules button.
 
14. Under location Information, if you have nothing there, click new. If you have something like My Location, or New Location, click edit.
 
15. In the Edit Location Window, Ensure the Country/region is set for the United States and the Area Code is set for 724.

a. In the Section with the Blue Words Dialing rules, all 4 boxes should be empty (unless they are a business that requires the dialing of a number to access an outside line.)

b. If you have call waiting, put a check in the To disable call waiting box, and enter *70, in the text box to the right.

c. Ensure the customer is set for Tone Dialing (if you have tone dialing), and then return to the top of the window, and click the Area Code Rules Tab.
 
16. If the customer has nothing under Area Code, click New otherwise click Edit.
 
17. Enter the Area code in the Area Code Box,

a. Leave the Prefixes settings at their default.

b. Under Rules, put a check beside Include the area code.

c. Click OK.
 
18. Under Edit Location, click Apply, and OK.
 
19. Under Phone and Modem Options, Ensure the code for disabling call waiting *70, (If the customer has it) is there, and the area code are present in the phone number. This is done by looking at the lower left hand corner of the window at the Phone Number Will be Dialed AS area.

a. If this is correct, click Apply and OK.
 
20. This will take you back to the Brad’s Net Properties window, where you will next click on the Networking Tab.
 
21. Under the Networking Tab, Ensure that Internet Protocol(TCP/IP) is checked, and place a check beside CLIENT FOR MICROSOFT NETWORKS
(Brad’s Net REQUIRES these 2 protocols)

a. QoS Packet Scheduler is not necessary, but will NOT interfere with the connection.

b. Click OK, and you’re done.
